The Delegation for Scientific and Technical Information introduced a policy to digitize its resources in order to conserve them and make them easier to disseminate and re-use.
Depending on the type of resource (older books, journals, photographs, etc.), digitized documents are hosted on national or international platforms. All resources are stored in a long-term archiving system offering advanced features and strong visibility.
The digitized books and journals are also available on BeL-Inra.
The Thuret Collection on Gallica
gallica.bnf.fr/
Thanks to a partnership between the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BNF) and Inra, 371 books in the Villa Thuret archives were digitized and published on Gallica, the digital library of the BNF and its partners.
The Villa Thuret library was created in 1857 by Gustave Thuret, an eminent botanist based in Cap d’Antibes. It is a unique and remarkable collection of documents on plants (flora, botanical monographs, plant biology, horticulture, arboriculture, exotic plant species and acclimatisation, etc.).
Thuret bequeathed his collection, initially composed of 356 volumes, to his colleague Edouard Bornet, who entrusted it to the Villa Thuret. Today, the collection includes older and more recent books, periodical collections, boxes of correspondence and reprints, some 160 linear metres of occupied shelf space, 3,608 listed volumes, or 1,311 titles (1,767 older volumes, including 116 rare titles and 1,707 periodicals).
The Inra collection on Internet Archive
archive.org/details/inra
Funding from the SMaCH metaprogramme and from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (and its Digital Scientific Library) has made it possible to digitize, process and correct around 50,000 pages of the Avertissements Agricoles for the purpose of text mining via the www.pestobserver.eu platform, and the hosting of the pages on Internet Archive.
71 books from Inra’s main Paris library location were also digitized and published on Internet Archive.
Internet Archive is the world’s first open access digital library, with nearly 15 million titles (2017 data).
